OpenSuse 10.2-Lizard turns into a turtle when printing.

I have OpenSuse 10.2 to which thus far I'm liking. However, the jury is still out on whether I shred any evidence I ever used Suse thanks to their either brilliant, or extremely stupid move to jump in bed with Microsoft. Only time with tell who the real fool is on that one.

Anyways, I have a NEC SuperScript 1260 printer which I have successfully used with Suse and other distro's for years. Now, even though it recognized and configured it without a hitch, when I print with it, i feel like it is processing though drying concrete. It takes a long time to spool...prints one page, then waits almost a full minute to spool the next page before printing. Can anyone give me a hand in this?
