New install behaves strangely - Konqueror

I have a little experience with Linux having tried out Fedora and Mandrake on my old machine. But I still classify myself as a newbie! I just built a new one (specs in signature), and I've tried Fedora. However, I liked the look of SuSE and decided to give it a whirl. I downloaded a 9.2 DVD iso for x86_64. The download went fine - md5sum checked out - and burned fine to DVD.

I loved the way it installed and subsequently started up! Seemed much more polished and clean than what I've experienced so far.

While just poking around a bit though, I was having trouble while browsing with Konqueror. I only went to a couple of sites and it hung up - after a while displaying a message that Konqueror needs to close. I tried opening it again, and I just got the little bouncing icon next to my cursor, but no Konqueror! I checked in a term, and the program was showing up under a ps. However, I just had to kill it.

I logged out and logged back in - only to experience the same problem after just a couple of sites. This time I wasn't even able to open a console. I got the same bouncing icon next to the cursor - which created a trace image all over the screen following the cursor movement.

Then I couldn't even shut down - it just hung there. Any idea what could be going on? I really liked the look and feel of SuSE and want to keep using it, but this is too flaky for me!

Maybe konqueror is not the perfect web browser. I have read quite a couple of reports of strange behavious on certain webpages. If you provide a link to such a site, I could try to reproduce the error. Usually I use firefox for http and konqueror for FTP.

You could start konqueror from console to see if you get any error messages.

Thing is, I've used Konqueror in Fedora and Mandrake without this trouble. Moreover, even if Konqueror was not the perfect browser, it still shouldn't hang like this right? And how did the console launch hang in the same way?

I will try again - this time launching from console and see what happens.

You are right, it should not happen, but did you try it with the same version and webpage in the other distros? Maybe a KDE update will help. Did you run YOU recently? It seems as if the crash affects the whole KDE system. Did you check the error logs (/var/log/kdm.log and ~/.xsession-errors)?

No, the websites weren't the same. I don't know which versions of KDE or Konqueror I had before. I will check out those things you refer to though. Thanks!
