Hi,
I've just downloaded the latest release of Suse. Rather than download the 5 separate cd images, I downloaded the DVD image. I notice, however, that this also has 5 files. I assume that these can all be put on one DVD. Is this correct? If so, should they be placed in a folder and saved to the DVD, or as the 5 separate files.
How will the installation pick up how to install each iso image?
I've never worked with Linux before so don't know much about installing it. I did put on Fedora 6, but had so much trouble trying to install drivers for my Sagem broadband modem that I gave up. Despite loads of help from people who new what they were doing, I just couldnt get it installed.
If memory serves, the SuSE DVD is a live bootable disk. The installation media only comes in CD format. Naturally you can put the CD images on DVDs but they each have to have their own disk. You cannot put all 5 on one DVD.
SuSE has a problem with accessing its installation disks once the operating system is running. Make sure that you install all of the software that you can during the initial system installation. You may not be able to install packages from the installation CDs after the operating system is running.

You can install Suse from the 5 CD set as well as from a DVD. There is also a Live DVD which you cannot install on to your system. I have never had problems adding applications from the CD set or DVD after installation because they are automatically added to your software installation sources. When you run YAST, packages are installed from the discs by default unless you setup online software repos.

Are you sure you downloaded the DVD iso. The reason I ask is because the DVD iso is one file and not 5 separate iso files.
Hi,
I was using a Mirror site and accessed what was said to be a DVD bittorrent file, which is what it is called on my desktop. Obviously there has been a problem with the file name though. I have now transferred the images to CD and installed Suse Ok,
Thanks,
Tim
