Hi,
I searched LQ and I couldn't find the answer that worked. I am trying to set KDE screen size as 1920x1200 which my DELL 2405FPW supports. I ran Sax2 and selected 1920x1200 resolution and I hit OK and testing screen appeared at 1600x1024. It didn't matter what I picked as resolution, on testing screen it was always at 1600x1024. Also KDE's max screen size is 1600x1024. Please help me configure resolution. This is my xorg.conf file. I tried adding 1920x1200 in Modes and Screen section and was unsuccessful. Thanks.

Thanks for you reply. That I already did. See that commented line with 1920x1200? I added those lines but still test screen appeared at 1600x1024. I tried selecting LCD instead of Dell, the screen became blank and I had to reboot.
I finnally was able to fix the problem. I will post resolution for reference. In order to get resolution 1920x1200, you have to modify /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.
This is my Monitor and Screen section of the xorg.conf file and I completely deleted Modes section since it was included in Monitor section.
This line 1920x1200_60.00 means set resolution 1920x1200@60. Previously I had "1920x1200" but it still didn't work. I guess _60.00 made a difference.
Learning new things everyday. :-)
I will post my xorg.conf upon request.
Thanks.
I have been struggling with my Dell 2405FPW screen in SuSE. I have used various resources from around the web to construct an xorg.conf, but cannot seem to get it down. Would you be so kind as to post this?
Yes, I commented out lines with "Modes 1920x1200" in the original file because it didn't work.
Then I replaced with "Modeline 1920x1200_60.00" and it worked.
Huh?
That's what I said too. :-)
Thanks.
what are the important bits? i'm having a hell of a time getting 1920x1200 with this panel. there is conflicting information all over the place, and i'm not certain what parts of xorg.conf i NEED to have to get the proper resolution. could it be my display adapter? it's a vanilla 6600, so i wouldn't think my problems come from there. i'm using suse 10.0 and gnome. i've had this gorgeous panel for months and have never had it working in 1920x1200, now i'm sick of it, i need more desktop space any help is very much appreciated.
since the only resolution i want is 1920x1200, wouldnt i want this to be 60? i'm trying portions of xorg.conf files from everywhere, but nothing actually works. every now and then it fails to start x, so i have to go to my backup.
also, there is a gnome screen resolution panel that i keep trying to disable, but it doesnt go away. when i get the correct resolution, will this panel be automatically updated? this is frustrating.
guess i should have clarified further i know the inportant bits, but i dont know what parts of those sections are important. i'm confused because when i look at different xorg.conf files (presumably working with the 2405 panel), the monitor, mode, and screen parts of one xorg dont necessarily look like another xorg. i have a few saved as text files, i'll try to give an example of what i'm talking about.
another question, is there any other file that determines resolution besides xorg.conf? i ask, because i have no references to lower resolutions in my xorg.conf, but the screen resolution widget (that wont go away) gives me options for 640x480 up to 1280x1024, which is where i'm at now.
