I have the same problem, but it seems to be the sensetivity of the pad, if your hands are anywhere near it. If I make sure I don't lean on the area near the pad I don't have any problem. The Windows driver for the Synaptic touchpad has a setting to detect the "heal" of your hand and does something to the sensetivity. I don't know whether this is available in Linux. I've just upgraded to 11.0 on an Acer TravelMate 2304, and it is no worse than older versions of Suse. I have the same problem on other laptops with Fedora & Ubuntu.
