CDMA Modem via USB not working in SuSE 10

Hi everyone,

I am having a problem when I try to connect my VX4400 CDMA modem via USB.

In windows, I am able to use my VX4400 as a modem. Doesn't want to work in SuSE Linux 10.0.

I am using KDE and KInternet. I have an IBM R40 laptop with an AC'97 internal modem and a VX4400 cell phone with a CDMA modem. When I initially tried to use the modems, linux told me I had to install smartlink-softmodem drivers, which I did. I've tried the following rpm packages but I still get the same error:

smartlink-softmodem-2.9.10-3.2.i586.rpm
smartlink-softmodem-2.9.10-3.2.i586.patch.rpm
smartlink-softmodem-2.9.10-17.i586.rpm

Still the same error from KInternet Log:

SuSE Meta pppd (smpppd-ifcfg), Version 1.59 on linux.
Status is: disconnected
trying to connect to smpppd
connect to smpppd
Status is: disconnected
Status is: connecting
Status is: disconnected
pppd[0] died: pppd options error (Exit code 2)

I looked around online and found some articles that say to do this:

/etc/init.d/slmodemd start

I get the following:

Starting SmartLink Modem driver for slamr0: FATAL: Module slamr not found.
done
linux:/home/usrname # startproc: exit status of parent of /usr/sbin/slmodemd: 255

Then I try this:

"modprobe slamr"

Then I get:

FATAL: Module slamr not found.

Has anyone else had this problem and willing to share the fix? If you are responding, please know that I am a newbie at linux. I want to learn how to use it better, it is getting frustrating though when things work in WinXP but not SuSE.

Thanks in advance.

Tom

You must create a device called slamr or slamr0.nd you have to check yoour kernel about slamr that there is something like slamr.ko .
Otherwise noting will work

Thank you for responding Paul.

Unfortunately, I am a newbie and for me to check something like that I would need some detailed instructions.

Can someone tell me how I should go about checking if there is a slamr module in SuSE 10?

Does anyone know if there is a slamr module in SuSE 10?

If I do a "modprobe slamr", I get a FATAL error telling me it doesn't exist. That leads me to believe that it doesn't.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thank you.

Here is the slmodemd log from /var/log/slmodemd, any ideas on how to get the slamr module into my kernel? I am using SUSE 10, Kernel 2.6.13-15,
