ATI drivers always slow

Hi,
I sent feedback to ATI but they will likely ignore it.

So I have a 9700.
I've been through many upgrades for years but nothing improves in terms of performance. Perhaps they fix bugs? They never write a readme so that I could understand the point of the new driver releases.

The Windows GL drivers are much better. Why can't they make a good Linux driver?
Are they coding it from the ground up? Maybe the coders are lame? Perhaps Windows driver coder are rare and Linux ones are even rarer.

Seems to me there is no point of downloading newer drivers anymore. It never changes.

On Windows, I can see that bugs do get fixed since i do GL programming on it.

I've heard that nVidia Lin drivers are behind that of Windows as well.

Any comments?
