anyone have any tips for getting it to run on an ATI card? It seems that the native Nvidia driver is the way to go and is more stable from what I have been reading. The thing that makes me mad is I get the DRI error and the composite error when I run beryl-manager. I have everything added in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file (see my previous post) just like it says in the wiki how to.

Anyone got any ideas????

well just for the info, i had it running with my nvidia drivers but had a few problems. You can check in my previous posts how i had it running nd what i did which i am told to do that destroyed it. I had it running but i had to refresh window manager everytime i started my comp with beryl autostarting. I maxxed out the refresh rate since i have a good computer nd the cube nd all the textures looked flawless, amazing, but the only other thing that ticked me off was that the window minimize/maximize effects where glitchy as hell, they stuttered every single time. Thats my experience with the NVidia drivers.

You can try the opensource radeon driver for the ATI x550; it appears to work with AIGLX well, maybe better than the binary one.

yea i installed them but i installed everything in snapshot version because thats what the new suse intructions for beryl recommend, nd i found it better tell u the truth. I put it on my laptop, seems ok so far, my minimizing is a lil glitchy but not as bad, ima switch it to aiglx when i can rather than pure nvidia, nd i dont have the brand new nvidia driver 9755 i have 9746 on my laptop, nd wen i had that on my desktop it worked pretty similar, something is telling me nvidia is doing something wrong... vwvr9, r u using nvidia??

Just for people info this is my desktop

Asus AS8-SLI Deluxe Motherboard
AMD Athlon64 X2 4800+
Corsair 2GB Ram
NVIDIA 6800GT
500x2 Raid HD(Could it be interfering?)

I use just the nvidia drivers. I have never had a problem with it (at least one that I didn't create).

custom AMD64 3200+, 1 gig ram, nvidia 6600GT

I go to nvidia and download and compile them from there. I am currently using the last snapshot of beryl (0.2.0 rc1). I plan to upgrade to 2.0 stable this weekend. I don't use xgl or anything else.

hmm see theres one difference, i use the repo to download and the repo dosen have new one, the non snapshots are 0.1.4 nd the snapshots i think are around 0.1.6. I had trouble with the tarballs nd beryl i forgot where i had a problem on some step. Ill update you on it.

my mistake i just noticed they updated their repos, even 2.1 is now the snapshot. N e ways so i did try to install with new versions from repos nd still i have the same problem, i dont even get a window decorator with the 9755 Nvidia drive i think ur using 9746 thats what i was using nd had it working but had to reload the decorator everytime. The tarball gave me an error but its the same version as the repo. So baisically im thinking that this whole thing is because of the nvidia 9755 driver it just came out, if u want try it nd tell me ur results, cuz now i cant even see borders with beryl, nothing

10.2 was too slow and Beryl was buggy.

I gave up on SuSE 10.2 to because it ran very slow (boot, app loading) on both of my laptop and desktop. Beryl was buggy too at that time. Getting much faster performance with Linux Mint (Ubuntu) and much faster more current package system (apt-get). Beryl 2.0 performance is excellent on Linux Mint.
