A simple brand name does us no good. Even a brand/model doesn't help much, because the chipset often changes between hardware revisions. What we need is the chip information:
- Open a console.
- Change to root
Code:
foo@bar:~> su
Password:
bar:/home/foo #
- type
Code:
bar:/home/foo #lspci
- post back here with the results.
The lights don't mean much. My Belkin wireless card has a couple of LED's that wink at me like a hungry $2 whore the whole time it operates in windows. The card uses madwifi in Linux, and the LED's are completely dark the whole time. There are a few CLI strings I can issue to the card to bring the lights to life, but what for? I know it is working because I can browse the network and internet, besides the knetworkmanager tray app showing a connected status.
Get back with the lspci output and someone might be able to help you better.
