X Problems

I've Solaris 8 and my X doesn't work.
Matrox G400 (16MB)
17-inch Monitor
1024x768 - 256 color @ 70 Hz
MultiFrequency 56kHz (up to 1280x1024 interlaced)
Keyboard: Germany
Pointing Device: unknown

This is what Solaris has give to me. I've a USB Mouse, so i changed that. The other settings are right. I really have this Monitor and the Matrox Card. But, it doesn't work. When i make a test, the screen turned black and then back in kdmconfig. When i boot the system there is "The X-server can not be started on display :0..."
I try other settings, without Mouse and 800x600 and so on, but nothing helps......
Can anyone help me?

Did you install the XFree86 drivers from Sun?

http://soldc.sun.com/developer/suppo...deo-index.html

Click on "Download Porting Kits" at the bottom of the page.

Let me know if you need more help.

Hi!
OK! Now i've installed the xfree Driver 4.2.0 binary. Everythink was installed correct, but it still doesn't work with the mga or vesa drivers. I try my XF86Config-4 from another Debian System from a second Hard Dirk. I cut the Sreen and Monitor Section an put the file in /etc/X11/XF86Config. With this configuration kdmconfig crashes, or turned black and come back to the menu. So this doesn't work, too. Hmm... what can i do now? Would it help, when i post my config Files?

Thank you!

When you go into kdmconfig are you selecting the XF86-MGA driver or the "Matrox MGA G400/G450" driver?

OK! I've got it! It was the mouse! First i have an USB Mouse, then i tested a PS/2 Mouse, and it tells my /dev/kdmouse not found. Then is test it with a serial, and now X is running with the Sun G400 driver. Thanks anyway for your help!
