So who think's sun is better than linux?

Now Now. I don't want that.."It''s better for certain things...only on tuesdays"..none of that s***.

In and "all in all" comparision, which flavor of UNIX would you keep? Not just for PC's but one distribtuion for all the hardware platforms, an area linux is alreayd excelling in.

WELL!?

HUH!? HUH ?! HUH!

Unfortunately, there is no absolute best. It really depends on the requirements and the environment. Linux may have benefits for most companies, but it just won't work for some.

This question is a bit like asking which vehicle is the best: a Ferrari, a Volvo wagon, or a Freightliner? It really depends on what you're going to use it for.

To tell you the truth, I don't really personally run Solaris on x86 but if I had the money, I would load up on new Sun hardware and install Solaris on it..

But like stickman mentioned.. there is no best. I like both Linux and Solaris..

seems that the ftgow should use the systems first and then realize that to everything this is a place...commercial systems, ie Sun, have a place for all the reasons stated, plus the fact that that java is their code, so it runs better on their systems and they do have a good support systems....there are many companies running "commercial linux" systems for very similar reasons...and one larger one...big companies have big money, small companies need linux...as an adminstrator to both systems, and having both systems in my home as well, i find a place in the universe for the both...the better question would be what good can using them do...no berating those who haven't switched to one or the other...

I think Linux can't (yet) manage the Sun Fire Hardware (eg. the I/O Board's).
And I think for the UltraSparc CPU, Solaris is still the best.

As a happy linux user and a Solaris administrator, i can only add one simple answer to this threads question:

Linux is great indeed! BUT!!! If you have a SUN server, and the Solaris OS is written for that server the OS and hardware are optimized in a way no other OS can. I mean: Linux is a great OS with lots of support for different kinds of hardware. And thats also its weakness: because it has to support so much hardware, its not optimized for a specific machine, as Solaris is. Its the same thing as askin why people use AS/400 systems... Because the hardware and OS are designed for eachother!

And that's my humble opinion. Shoot at that is you want, but if you just want to defend linux instead of learn about computers, then do some updates. And be nice to eachother

Let's make a peaceful world by killing all enemies???

I don't have anything against Linux!!
I my a happy Linux user as well.
I just share the opinion that on Sun Server you should run Solaris because it's made to run on this Hardware.
If Linux would run as good as Solris on a Sun Server, i would use it...because IMOH Linux is easier to manage.
