Angry tar -T and -X: Not working

Hi,

I have following directory structure on SUN:

/s1g/dir1
/s1g/dir1/dir2
/s1g/dir1/dir2/exl

And I want to make a tar of /s1g/dir1 excluding /s1g/dir1/dir2/exl

So I an running following command:

tar cf temp.tar -T temp.include -X temp.exclude | ( cd .. ; tar xmBf temp.tar )

Contents of temp.include:
/s1g/dir1

Contents of temp.exclude:
/s1g/dir1/dir2/exl

However I am getting following error:

tar: -T: No such file or directory
tar: -X: No such file or directory

Could anybody please help me to resolve above error?

Thanks a lot,

The Solaris 8 and 9 man pages for tar shows the following syntax:
Code:
tar c [bBeEfFhiklnopPqvwX@[0-7]] [block] [tarfile] [exclude-file] {-I include-file| -C directory| file| file...}

Hi,

Thanks for the reply!!

Yes!! the tar help doesn't show -T option. However I am able to run the same command on a different Solaris machine with same OS version. So I am wondering whether it's a tar version problem or something else??

Please suggest.

Thanks,

A case of standard Solaris tar versus GNU tar maybe?
