Question Sun External speaker hookup???

Hi, I have a sun sparcstation running Solaris 9, and I just bought an external speaker, but have no clue how to hook it up and make it work. It is a speaker made by Sun, and it has what appears to be a mini scsi connector. The cord says "rev .50", "530-1866-02." There are what appear to be 2 headphone jacks on the back. The one on the left has a circle with an arrow pointing down, and one with an arrow pointing up. Can anyone help? Thanks!

It would help if you provided the model of your sparc station such as "sparc station 10", the connections are different.

Also go to docs.sun.com and search for your model this may get you what you want.

The model is Sparcstation 20. I looked around the net and found no help. I went out and bought 2 male to male headphone cords, and hooked up the speaker the way I thought it should be, and it doesent work.

Here is the link to the SPARCstation 20 Service Guide. It'll be your best bet for information regarding this model.

I assume you have the Sun External speaker box part number 540-2220.

If so, this part was designed for use with the SPARCstation 10, and is NOT compatible with the newer (or older) SPARCs which include miniDIN headphone style jacks. Since the SPARC10 does not have these DIN jacks, a special external speaker was needed.

Unfortuantely, I was unable to locate any documentation from Sun regarding the speaker or its use, but from what I have uncovered, you would be best off either searching for a SPARC10 to use, or selling the speaker.

Of course, the speakers are only 10 bucks on Ebay. Sorry man.

Oh well, I have the 540-2220 box. I got it for like $5, so I'm not out of any cash, but I was hoping to upgrade. I am using my sun box as a streaming media player using xmms. Thanks for the link Sailorgoon, I've been looking for a SS20 hardware refrence.

Not any trouble at all. Sun's website can get annoying with all of its subcategories, but generally, you can find nearly any documentation there.

Have you tried starting up audiotool to switch the audio output? It's been so long since I touched a Sparc 20.

Nope, audiotool didnt do anything. I also tried getting it to recognize the external speaker through suse sparc to no avail. Do any of you know where I might be able to find an older version of Solaris? I am looking for version 7 or below. Version 9 runs way too slow on this old box. Thanks!
