solaris 9 setup cd purpose?

Hello ,
Every one , I am relatively new to solaris,so asking some novice questions

I have downloaded solaris 9 for x86. which is on 3 cds.

Solaris 9 setup cd
software cd 1
software cd 2

I did not use solaris 9 setup cd , my os is installed from software cd 1.
Then added the remaining software from cd 2.

So what is the purpose setup cd?

My second question is that while making partation of / or swap there is a partation with named overlap what that represent?

Thanks in advance

An alternative installation option, seldom used.

The slice #2 is traditionally representing (almost) the whole disk on SPARC systems and (almost) the whole Solaris partition on x86. Just like say hda is overlapping hda1, hda2 and so on.

Don't use the overlap for anything like laying out a filesystem otherwise you'll quickly overwrite your existing data and brick your system !
