Solaris 10 bad nvidia installation

I have attempted to install nvidia driver 169.09 from www.nvidia.com.
1) sh NVIDIA....noted driver install successful.
2) Used nvidia-xconfig for /etc/X11/xorg.conf
3) Added modules path to xorg.conf
4) rebooted <reboot -- -r>
5) install was made read only
6) Sid nor Slackware will not mount the partitions for correction.
7) regular boot reads grub then error: can not find driver for console framebuffer.
8) reboot for reconfiguration will not boot either.

Is there any way to get back into Solaris 10 to correct errors?

It seems I can do nothing with Solaris.

If you can, install OpenSolaris (i.e. Solaris Express Edition) instead. It is quite similar to a modern Linux such as SuSE, RedHat. Solaris 10 is conservative in my opionon. Solaris 10 is Enterprise, and they dont want any fancy stuff, the most important thing is stability. No playing around. OpenSolaris is very stable and has never crashed for me. It has all that Linux fancy stuff. My Nvidia 6200 got detected and installed automatically. The same with monitor NEC WGX2, Sound, network, etc. Just like a modern Linux

re: open Solaris

kebabbert,

Thanks for the information. I have never tried it as of yet. I remember when I started, it was RedHat 7.2 and I threw it against the wall a few times. I think against the wall helps adjust a distro so it works better for you.

I am only doing Solaris 10 for the education and if it was easy, I would not try it. I am now being a problem, for lack of knowledge, on this site. People are helpful and I am determined.

Solaris Express (which I am speaking of) is the next generation Solaris in beta (but more stable than an ordinary linux). As such, it IS solaris. And, Nvidia drivers are included in solaris express, i.e. Opensolaris. I really strongly suggest you to try Solaris Express out. There will be much lesser problems.

I had troubles installing nvidia drivers for S10, but I succeeded (dont rememeber the details). Then the sound config and network config, etc took so much time I tried OpenSolaris thanx to Jilliagre and everything just worked automatically. S10 is great if you have the SUN hardware but if you have a simple noname x86 box, it can be troublesome, due to lack of drivers. SUN hardware have all the correct drivers on S10, and therefore works like a charm.

However, if noone is helping you out here, try what I did: go to nvidia forums, there is a solaris subforum, I think.
