Hello, i had the 2009 opensolaris cd lying about, i have never tried it out until yesterday... i followed a few steps on the solaris wiki/information center to try and get a wireless connection up and running.
My wireless usb dongle (as detected on linux) is:
Code:
ID 050d:8053 Belkin Components Ralink RT2870 [F5D8053 N Wireless USB Adapter v1000/v4000]
I had heard that this requires the
RUM driver to work so i obtained it on my linux instal::
Code:
# wget http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/laptop/downloads/rum-0.1-pkg.tar.gz
and then copied via usb into the livecd environment running opensolaris:
Code:
# gzip -dc rum-0.1-pkg.tar.gz | tar xvf -
# cd rum-0.1; pkgadd -d . SUNWrum
All went well so i plumbed the device:
Code:
# ifconfig rum0 plumb
I can't remember off the top off my head, but yesterday i ended up getting an established link, however without obtaining an ip from my router by doing similar to this:
Code:
# dladm create-secobj -c wpa password
# dladm connect-wifi -e essid -k password
The tray notification on the panel stated i was connected, but the ip was set to 0.0.0.0
I am a bit confused (having never used solaris before).
I'm wondering how i can successfully connect to a wireless router over wpa/personal using the
RUM driver.
I would have tried wpa_supplicant but it does not seem to exist.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
(i also cannot connect using ethernet to obtain any drivers/packages, annoying paradox, that i have to download any needed files with a wireless link to get wireless working
)
Hope that made sense :x
