raid 1 configuration


hi guys
i have 2 hard drives of 70Gb each installed on a server running solaris 10 sparc.
i would like to know the commands and steps to create a raid 1 (mirror).

sorry but it didn't help
i tried to run mdadm but it says command not found...seems like i don't have it install

I reread your post and see you are running solaris. I'm not familiar with the software on solaris so hopefully someone else will chime in. sorry

i realize that i had to use the metainit first to create a one-way mirror

As you are using Solaris 10, a simpler option would be to use ZFS.

I agree with jilliagre

Don't use metainit...use zfs...it's WAY easier...


For example...
Code:
root@host# zpool create poolname mirror c2d0s0 c3d0s0
...Where poolname is whatever you want to name the pool (and consequently your mountpoint)

Also note that your discs will probably be named different...do a format and you will see what the discs are named...(get out of the format prompt by typeing ctrl+c)

Actually, the sample command custangro posted is the only one needed to create a raid configuration using ZFS.
Not only it builds a RAID but it also creates a filesystem and make it mounted and available.
The only thing you need to change is the devices passed to the command. Of course, these depends on your disks, partitions or whatever you want to create your mirror on.
