Print server configuration copy

Hi all.

Does anyone know of a quick way of replicating a print server config onto another host? We've got a (Sol8) machine with ~100 printers configured, and we're moving the services onto a new (Sol10) box. There's various types/makes of printer, so automating the process is somewhat difficult.

I've tried copying over /etc/lp, and restarting the print svc but none of the printers show up in 'lpstat -s', so it looks like that's not enough.

Any ideas?

Cheers.

Dave

You are probably missing other things like copying /etc/printers.conf among others. I would just rebuild them manually through printmgr or lpadmin. It would be a pain but the binaries for printing are newer in 10 and I don't know if the copying of the directories and files would cut it. 10 and 9 use ppd (I don't think 8 did, 9 does) and rip (raster imaging) as well.

Good luck,

J.

Ah. Yup the /etc/printers.conf file was what I was missing - the printers show up in 'lpstat -s' now.
Unfortunately, you're right about the changes in Sol10. All the 'Interface' entries are different. Damn. Looks like I'm in for some overtime next week.

Ah well, if I ever need to do a Sol10 -> Sol10 copy, I'll know what to do.

Cheers Javier.
