Perl Package Installation Trouble

I am trying to install perl modules onto a Solaris 10 Sparc box and am having a heck of a time installing certain packages because of dependencies. I am trying to install XML-PARSER-2.36 and it is giving me these errors messages.

PHP Code:
/tmp/XML-Parser-2.36
# make test
make[1]: Entering directory `/tmp/XML-Parser-2.36/Expat'
cc -c   -D_LARGEFILE_SOURCE -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -xarch=v8 -D_TS_ERRNO -xO3 -xspace -xildoff   -DVERSION=\"2.36\" -DXS_VERSION=\"2.36\" -KPIC "-I/usr/perl5/5.8.4/lib/sun4-solaris-64int/CORE"   Expat.c
/bin/sh: cc: not found
make[1]: *** [Expat.o] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory
`/tmp/XML-Parser-2.36/Expat'
make: *** [subdirs] Error 2

I have gcc installed but I see that it is looking for for cc. help

Have a look at this. There's more than a way to configure the build script to use one compiler or another.

I am trying to install Digest::SHA, a perl module and this is what I am getting.

PHP Code:
# perl Makefile.PL
Checking if your kit is complete...
Looks good
Writing Makefile

# make
cp SHA1.pm blib/lib/Digest/SHA1.pm
/usr/bin/perl /usr/perl5/5.8.4/lib/ExtUtils/xsubpp  -typemap /usr/perl5/5.8.4/lib/ExtUtils/typemap -typemap typemap  SHA1.xs SHA1.xsc && mv SHA1.xsc SHA1.c
cc
-c   -D_LARGEFILE_SOURCE -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -xarch=v8 -D_TS_ERRNO -xO3 -xspace -xildoff   -DVERSION=\"2.11\" -DXS_VERSION=\"2.11\" -KPIC "-I/usr/perl5/5.8.4/lib/sun4-solaris-64int/CORE"   SHA1.c
/bin/sh: cc: not found
make: *** [SHA1.o] Error 1
# /bin/sh: cc: not found
bash: /bin/sh:: No such file or directory
I have tried

PHP Code:
 make CC=gcc
I have tried

PHP Code:
