Question Openindiana + Android permissions

Hi,

I use Openindiana with napp-it. I am able to access and modify the zfs folders from windows but not from android. I ve used several apps like ES File Exporer and AnsSMB with no success. I can see the server but when I try to login it complains about wrong credentials. Any help will be very appreciated...

Almost 1 year ago I was testing the same scenario and found most android cifs/smb apps malfunctioned authenticating. I remember testing nearly all of the cifs/smb apps on the android market and there was only one android app that I was able to login to the cifs share and see the folders and files but was unable to read, move, or edit anything. If memory serves me correctly, the solaris authentication logs were showing that an incorrect password was being presented when in fact it correct.

When I get another android device I will troubleshoot this again.

I know this sounds silly ... but if you try logging in with only the first 8 characters of your password does it connect correctly?

Yes, it has nothing to do with that.

Usually yes, as that's Solaris default behavior and it has been doing that for about two decades, just like all Unix and Unix likes OSes when using the standard Unix crypt algorithm. This algorithm can be changed to a stronger one that considers more than eight characters. OpenIndiana might use another algorithm than crypt by default.
