not able login as root via ftp


hi guys,
i am trying to login as root via ftp
it alwasy said that loggin failed
my password is correct and all
but i am able to login as a simple user , and each time i tried to put or get a file it says permission denied.

how can i log on as root via ftp?
thnx in advance

I advice against enabling root logins on FTP (that's really risky), and it's obviously configured that way - I'd leave it like that, it's a good thing! There's bound to be some way to tweak your FTP daemon's configuration in order to give users a reasonable amount of file manipulation power.

If you have access to the box, try to find out which FTP is running and where the configuration files are located. I don't have access to a (Open)Solaris box, but I'd say it's just a matter of adjusting the config file and restarting the daemon.

I found this about in.ftpd which appears to be the default FTP daemon on OpenSolaris; hope it helps:

As already stated, don't allow root access through FTP, and more generally, don't use FTP at all except for anonymous file service.

If you don't care about your system being compromised, you can have a look at the ftpusers manual page.
