Have been working on Linux for 3 year now but i just decided to taste something new. so i said solaris would be it.
so i decided to download and install it. but i am currently having a little difficulties now.
1. couldnt get gui. why?
2. secondly while i was installing it i decided to ignor the network part such as putting ip and the rest because i love doing that from the command line but now i see that it is quiet differ from linux. so i need help on how to detect my network card.
3. i also want to know how to set up the box as a router
4. less i forget, does solaris use iptables.
Hi,
You 'd install what ?
I suggest to start with opensolaris, (in-preview oct 31st), this is an onlive CD, it recognizes normally your video card, I checked it on differents machines (laptop toshiba, compaq , on PC acer ...)
best regards

It would help if you tell:
- what precise Solaris release you have installed (cat /etc/release if you are unsure)
- what is your graphic card brand and model
2 - run sys-unconfig and reboot. You'll be asked again the questions you skipped at the installation time.
3 - Solaris is acting as a router by default. You can disable routing by creating the /etc/notrouter file or by using the routeadm command on recent releases.
4 - no, iptables is Linux specific. Solaris uses ipfilter.
