new to solaris

hi every body
i wanna ask something
first of all i had used Linux for a long time
i loved Slackware very much
i tried a lot of other Linux distribution like fedora ,suse,mandrake,...
but i didn't feel them
now i want to try anther Unix like such as BSD and solaris
i found that opensolaris released solaris 10
i went to the site of sun to download it
but i have some questions
1-will i found a lot of programs and packages like that in linux?
2-is solaris very powerful like Linux (speed,stability)....?
3-it that easy for new users?

Same comments I made about your post concerning BSDs. Here is the opensolaris web page:

I suggest you try OpenSolaris (i.e. Solaris Express) instead, as it is similar to a modern Linux. Solaris 10 feels a bit antique.

As how Solaris compares to Linux:

That's the other way around.

You'll find some of them will behave differently, Solaris not being based on GNU userland like Linux. About packaged applications, most of the well known ones can be found for Solaris.

Probably easier for Slackware user's more familiar with the command line.

By the way, I saw your other thread on *BSD and you'll be faced to the same issue with Solaris. The Solaris O/S requires a primary partition (but no more) to install. It is actually the BIOS standard that requires that and AFAIK only Linux has some hacks to allow installing to a logical partition. All other O/Ses I'm aware of that boot on regular x86 need a primary partition.
