Installing drivers for Sol-10 08/7?

Hello to All,

I wish to know if for a example, the SDD Tool shows that a Network Card is not supported but a driver for it is available, then how can I install that type of driver....suppose its for an Intel Pro 100 VE...

Is there a way (for ANY driver) to install on Solaris 10 8/07? What are the commands ans steps to follow?

The installation steps are usually bundled with the drivers in a readme file.

You usually download them from the Internet

I hope you didn't expected a more precise answer for such a vague question.

Thats not what I meant. I know that.

What I mean, is that suppose I need it for my Network Card, do I download this from the Sun website? I thought that Sun had a separate drivers download page or something...

And what if I dont find any drivers on the internet for Solaris 10? Then what?

Like what if I go to Intels website???
Theres less likely that they have drivers for a Solaris box....

Thats what I really meant.

Thanks.

When you need a driver for your Windows (edited) printer, do you download it from your printer manufacturer's website or from microsoft's?

Buying another card?

If Intel is the manufacturer, they problably should give you information about that, if the card is not supported in Solaris 10 out of the box. There may be another third party driver which works for your card, but with no information, no answer could be given.

The problem in the example you pick isn't about a missing driver.

The Intel NICs like the Pro 100 are normally supported by the iprb driver which is bundled with Solaris.

Your card may be one of the models that requires some configuration file tweaking to work if you are lucky or one of the models that aren't properly supported yet by the driver if you are unlucky.

OK, fine....I'll just buy a new card when I have to...or if my new PC is not supported....
The HCL would probably give me a good guide on what devices are supported and hopefully Solaris 10 RELEASE 09/7 will be available...

In this case, I continue to suggest the Sun Device Detection Tool, http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/hcts/device_detect.jsp, it always worked for me!
