Angry Help Installing Solaris 10 needed!!

I have downloaded the CD's for Solaris 10 and would like to try it out on my home PC - spec as follows

AMD Duron 1200 Processor
512Mb RAM
40 Gb HDD
ATI Rage Pro 128
Intel Pro 100 network card

I can boot from the CD's no problem, however here is where the fun begins!! If I selct option 1, it crashes after telling me what hardware it will use for the GUI (which is correct, btw). It seems at this point the keyboard no longer responds.

I read around that I need to choose option 4 (something about the driver for my ATI not being correct). this then continues, again shows me my hardware list (correct as usual) and then asks me what language to choose for the install. At this point the PC or keyboard no longer responds.

I can succesfully run windows XP and have also installed RHEL4.0 no problems - and works fine. Its just that I want to have a look at SOlaris 10. Failing this the CD's go in the bin, as most of the machines I have access to have ATI cards.

Can anyone help me??

Royster-Doyster.

Try a non graphic installation (but may be is it option 4 you already tried).

Another option would be to tell the installer you just have a generic VESA graphic card and see if it goes better.

Default driver

Hi,

Yes option 4 is the text/console install option. How do you specify a different graphics driver rather than the detected (default) one?

I believe you can have a text only installation, and at some time bypass the graphic detection ("b - nowin" or F4?).

Sorry, but I haven't any spear PC to check.

See: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817...gbagb1e?a=view

You can then select the graphic driver after the O/S is installed and booted.

Hi,

I have been through those documents but it still doesn't address my problem.

If I try graphical install it crashes

If i try text console, it won't let me edit the defaults and doesn't allow keyboard input at the language definition prompt.

What I need is either instructions how to reselect my graphics card to the generic default, or information on why my keyboard doesn't respond in text mode. Or maybe even reset the graphics driver in the text mode screen.

In the documentation, i don't get beyond step 6.

Regards,

Hello,

I encountered the same problem ...

You mustn't use any USB device (Mouse || Keyboaerd)
The installer works fine if u use PS2 input devices.

Solaris 10

Hi,

No there are no conflicts reported. The install correctly detects all of my hardware.
