downloading solaris

Solaris 9 Installation CD, Multi-language (sol-9-u7-install-x86.zip, 401.94 MB)
Solaris 9 Languages CD, Multi-language (sol-9-u7-lang-x86.zip, 434.05 MB)
Solaris 9 Software 1 of 2 CD, Multi-language (sol-9-u7-x86-v1.zip, 278.06 MB)
Solaris 9 Software 2 of 2 CD, Multi-language (sol-9-u7-x86-v2.zip, 368.29 MB)

The site says these are all required to download. I am just curious, what is the languages cd?

Also, I have Slackware Linux on my laptop and I want to format the partition Slack is on and install Solaris.. will this be easy to do?

Do not download the installation CD, install from cd 1 of 2, then 2 of 2.
The language CD is containing all the localized packages (i.e. non english), so if you accomodate an (american) english system, you neither need it.

If you want to reuse the partition slack is currently on to install Solaris (by overwriting it), just remove the partition.

It won't be as easy as it could, especially if you want a multi O/S system, see previous postings about Solaris installation.

Oh, I didn't know you can install using cd #1. I've installed it (repartitioned everything the way i want it) with the Install CD. Ok, so pretty much my question is....what is the Install CD for and why don't we need to download it? Thanks!

The installation CD is intended to ease Solaris installation (Web Start method) and I've no doubt it works.
I was suggesting you to start straight from CD#1 (suninstall method) because some people have reported a better experience with that one, it saves you one CD download, and I think it is faster.
There are some other methods available to install Solaris too, that are even faster if you have more than one system to install.
See your release documentation installation guide on docs.sun.com for details.
