Well I got Solaris Express b57 again, but I want to install a newer version before I continue the network thing. Anyways, on Windows, it says there is nothing connected with the ethernet. Even though the hme0 device is up on the ultra 5, windows says it's disconnected, should I just wait for Solaris Express b90 or Solaris 10 5/08 is installed?
I hooked up the ethernet cable to the computer from the ultra 5, then put the ethernet devices up on both sides. Assigned an IP address for the ultra 5 using:
Code:
ifconfig hme0 192.168.1.102
Then, did the same thing on the host side:
Code:
ifconfig nfo0 192.168.1.102
After that, it didn't work, so I took the ultra 5 into the room with the router, hooked it up to the router, and put up hme0, and all worked well. So I don't know why the computer to computer thing isn't working.

Please read carefully what I already answered a couple of times:
You cannot assign the same IP address on both sides and expect communication to occur.
I know. Not trying to be rude, but you just asked me to see what I did to configure it. I am using linux and freebsd on one side, and solaris 9 on the ultra 5. The IP addresses are not the same now. Maybe a crossover cable is necessary here? Or am I doing something wrong?

What IP addresses did you set ?
Are the interfaces up and running on both sides ? (ifconfig -a)
Any system message of interest when you plug the cable in ? (dmesg)
It is possible that the interface cannot negociate their configuration due to the lack of switch or router. Did you force the speed and duplex to a given value on both sides in that case ? (ndd)
