Aquiring Sun Solaris OS

I have a dumb question,
is it possible to aquire sun's solaris for free (legally)?

There's a lot of labs on campus here that use solaris, and I woudl be really interested in learning the in's/out's of it without having to pay thousands for it.

Thank you in advance :-)

Sure, Solaris has been free for non commercial use for years, and, for commercial use, it had never cost thousands (of $) anyway for single CPU x86.
Next Solaris version will be free even for commercial use (see two postings beyond in this forum: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=256352).
