Wifi adapters with working host AP mode?

Has anyone got a known working usb3 wifi device & driver doing hostAP? I have a couple (Realtek devices) where the chips claim it as a feature, although this
Code:
# iwconfig wlanX … mode Master …
doesn't set master, but leaves it as 'managed.' In each case the driver was a speculative effort from Github, RTL8812BU & RTL8811CU chips to be precise. Apparently the hardware is capable, but the code is lacking.

I am using 88x2bu.ko in hotspot mode.
I don't use iwconfig, I use hostapd. only in aarch32 (rk3288)

Code:
wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:"point" Nickname:"WIFI@RTL88X2BU"
          Mode:Master Frequency:2.462 GHz Access Point: RR:RR:RR:RR:RR:RR
          Bit Rate:144.4 Mb/s Sensitivity:0/0
          Retry:off RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:off
          Link Quality=100/100 Signal level=67/100 Noise level=0/100
