Another quick update: The only files I actually needed to move were the libgl_plugin.so and libgl_plugin.la. The rest can stay.

I don't think its a bug in VLC, or even necessarily openGL. I think its the way they interact with each other and the weird Pi graphics setup.

VLC 4 is under development, and you can already download preliminary snapshots of the code. Its a bit early for me to be attempting to build it, but I'm certainly keeping an eye on it. Hopefully it will have some Pi options built in....
