why does "ls -l" shows date as YYYY-mm-dd?

folks anyone noticed that when one does an "ls -l" from console the date format is changed from the standard "MMM-dd hh:mm" to "YYYY-mm-dd"?

is this the new format now for slackware 10?

I'd guess since some people have files dating from several years they use Year/Month/Date to better help display the age of the file.

no that's not it. it is a standard UNIX format everywhere that files are displayed with an MMM-dd format if those files are less than six months old and with an MMM-dd-YYYY format if the files are more than six months old. if you do an "ls -l" now from your console it would be displayed with a format of "YYYY-mm-dd" which are all numeric.

i know it's trivial but for old UNIX folks like me it's irritating.
