New Install of 12.1 on Atom board hangs after rc.modules-2.6.24.5-smp during boot
Intel Atom D945GCLF board. Completed install without any complaints
It hangs on boot after
Quote:
Running /etc/rc.d/rc.modules-2.6.24.5-smp:
Module dependencies up to date (no new kernel modules found).
Other less than encouraging messages on display are:
Quote:
ACPI Exception (processor_core-0816): AE_NOT_FOUND, Processor Device is not present [20070126]
Quote:
intel_rng: Firmware space is locked read-only. If you can't or don't want to disable this in firmware setup, and if you are certain that you system has a functional RNG, try using the 'no_fwh_detect' option.
Quote:
hda_codec: Unknown model for ALC662, trying auto-probe from BIOS...
Quote:
rtc_cmos: probe of 00:03 failed with error -16
Any advice on how to get it booting would be appreciated?
did you realize it says no kernel modules found for some reason you had a bad install the package kernel modules never got installed. re install if you can burn your cd at a slow speed. make sure you just do a full install.
when it asks you what kernel to use just push enter the one you booted with the huge-smp.
why because if you don't it will not load the drivers to start your hard drive and if your hard drive is not up the kernel will panic or not read the drive not read the drive it will say know kernel modules found. reinstall.
Welcome to Lq
It look to me like kernel modules haven't been installed or there are some compatibility issues.
Why don't you try install Slackware 12.2, this problem might be solved with new 2.6.27 kernel, or like Drakeo sad it might be corrupted cd, anyway newer version wont hurt
intel_rng - no clue
hda_codec - high definition audio, should work (not hang) without
rtc_cmos - real time clock, theoretically should work without, but one can't be really sure / being unable to access cmos might lead to more important settings being unreachable
Searched LQ properly today. Issue with this board's ethernet and earlier kernels. Could boot into 12.1 with ethernet switched off in the BIOS. Install of 12.2 sorted it. Thank for the help guys.
As noted above "no new kernel modules found" message persists in a working system. Just happened to hang after modprobe.
