Well, I found that a few programs do work on Wine 8.0 right out of the box. Notepad works great. The Online Bible program from the Netherlands runs very well indeed similar to win11 function.
Glad to see that. I just tried 'conty' recommended by rknelson. Worked well. I use Bible software called 'TheWord' and it worked very well with conty. It is my favorite Bible software and has Chinese plugin too. Free also. Very nice.

wine: updated to 8.2 (Slackware 15.0 and -current).
Depends on FAudio, vkd3d. For 64bit Slackware, also depends on multilib.
In addition to standard multilib, you need to convert the 32bit FAudio
and vkd3d packages to '-compat32' packages and install those as well.

The Wine development release 8.6 is now available.
What's new in this release:
- Bundled math library from Musl libc.
- Gecko engine updated to version 2.47.4.
- Improved spool file support in the PostScript driver.

Tried 8.0 the other day, it's ok. On one of my old 32bit systems, I upgraded to 8.0 from 3.0.4 with no loss in functionality.
Tested/works:
Compiled one wine32 only (no vkd3d, vulkan, wine64, or wine16).
Compiled one wine64 only, with vkd3d-1.7 and everything, so far it works fine for my use-case, not sure how stable it is in general.
May have some new features/requirements I was previously unaware of, like winegstreamer for example: it used to build ok without-gstreamer and now some other wine components can break without it.
Might look into it at some point, but not very high on my list.

Has anyone gotten multilib to work with up-to-date --current?
I use Slackware64 15+current sometimes with multilib and WINE. I got no errors installing multilib nor switching back; (I used to but) you just need to read the instructions closely enough.
I deleted and remade a WINE directory/folder/prefix, and reinstalled programs, and rebuilt my WINE menu using commands on the WINE forum... however, the rebuilt menu doesn't work: it only works to run the programs on command-line... I've found anytime I delete and reinstall a WINE directory/folder/prefix, I have to reinstall Slackware to get back a working menu for KDE or XFCE... is there any way to fix it properly?
