check /etc/passwd and ensure that the entry for your user account is something like:

Code:
mdarby:x:1208:1009:,,,:/home/mdarby:/bin/bash

you should make sure that you're not using repositories
just comment out all the "REPOS_ROOT=" entries if they aren't already

also, what does 'ls -l /dev/null' return?

it's a problem with the package udev-054. I haven't figured out what happened exactly with this package to cause this problem but you should return to the earlier version, udev-050-i486-1.tgz.

Simply get the udev-050-i486-1.tgz package then type:

Code:
upgradepkg udev-050-i486-1.tgz
Reboot and your system will be back to normal.

when using swaret make sure "rollback" is enabled. That way if something like this happens again you'll have the previous version to rollback to. Makes life easier in the long-run believe me.
