slackware-current (x86) as of 2016-04-13: troubles with polkitd, ConsoleKit, and Connection editor
When trying to edit a network connection with KDE's Connection editor, a popup asks me for root password ("System policy prevents modification of network settings for all users"). Having entered the right password for root, there comes the popup again with an authentication failure asking for root's password again (and again one more time, before giving up).
/var/log/security says:
Apr 13 21:13:36 orange polkitd(authority=local): Operator of unix-session:/org/freedesktop/ConsoleKit/Session3 FAILED to authenticate to gain authorization for action org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.settings.modify.system for unix-process:19227:192396980 [/usr/bin/kde-nm-connection-editor 89b43fa0-30f9-44e6-900a-1039e5f8fd48] (owned by unix-user:chris)
Of course I did run `slackpkg new-config`, and of course I have the polkitd group...
...BUT I should have rebooted my system (probably a simple logoff/logon would have helped here, too). Shame on me! I am not used to rebooting a Unix/Linux system ;-)
Marking this thread as solved. And thanks for pointing me into the right direction.
