SLackware 10.1 hangs with soundcard activated

I have am running an AMD K6/2 450 and have an ASOUND GOLD ISA soundcard. Alsaconf configures it, and alsamixer works. On boot to KDE, the sound is clear, but sometimes hangs the computer before completely loading KDE. Other times, it loads KDE, lets the mouse work for a bit, then hangs. One time it loaded KDE, but hung as soon as I started and application (Potato Guy ....no jokes now, this box is for my grandson). Any suggestions for correcting this problem?

An ISA card... man that goes a long way back.
You might experience an interrupt problem. Make sure the ISA card uses an interrupt that is not used by (for instance) the mouse or any other device.

That makes sense. I haven't had to fix an IRQ problem for years! This is a dual boot box with windows XP. Surprisingly, windows handles the card fine, after I downloaded drivers, of course.

Question....in Slackware, how do I determine and alter interrupts? Will the interrupt for the sound card be known before I run alsaconf?

When i installed 10.2 on my sony vaio laptop i had to remove arts or kde would freeze and all i could do was press the power button. Then i tweaked it a bit and compiled a new kernel and could reinstall arts. good luck!
