This is my Config:-
P3 700MHz, 256MB SDRAM, 20GB HDD, Intel 810 chipset.
1.Whenever I login to root or any other account and start X-Server it always hangs, wats the damn prob?? (Using KDE 3.5 desktop)
Could the problem be with the "Xorg.conf" file?
2.And even after configuring the audio using alsaconf I dont get any audio output, It shows the audio device as intel 8x0
***The system hangs most of the times, it rarely works fine,***
*Hang meaning after starting X , after a 20-30 seconds, the mouse completely stops moving, even keyboard doesnt work, nothing works,
*Sometimes even some dialog box comes up with some error and the system speaker starts beeping continously
*This happens MOST(99%) of the times in root, and 90% of the times when i login as someother user.
Can you post all errors you receive, how can we know what the problem is if you don't post the exact errors you get, you said there was even a dialog box with some error.
Also, when it crashes try switching VTs by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F? where F? is an F key such as F1, F2, etc.
Also take a look at '/var/log/Xorg.0.log' and .log.old look for errors. If it's the entire system that crashes (you can't even switch VTs) then take a look at 'messages' and 'syslog' as well.

xorgconfig is the easier way for getting your X set up....even if you make mistakes you can always start over again , it just takes a few minutes...and of course you will have to start x as root the first time.the command is = startx
Ps = xorgconfig makes you choose your keyboard , mouse , monitor and video card from a list , just pay attention to the choices it gives you , for example if it asks you if the video modes are ok just agree , you can always change them later .good luck
Actually, I'd say `xorgcfg` is much easier. It either comes up with a correct display after a few seconds--at which point you click the Exit button and OK a couple of times to save things and you're done--or it doesn't.
As to this...

...this is probably not good. Having the PC speaker beep continuously is usually the hardware, itself trying very desperately to signal there's a problem, like the CPU overheating. It would generally be helpful to know what the exact text of the error dialog says. Hint hint.
Either way, since Intel hardware is involved, it's likely that the user needs to check the patches/ folder for the upgrades to the Intel X video driver. The 2.0.0 version that was released with Slackware 12 is very buggy. 2.1.0 isn't the latest version, but it works well enough on my laptop (which is horrifyingly unstable with 2.0.0).
For issues with Intel HDA sound, the answer there the majority of the time is to just upgrade the kernel. There have been about 1/3 metric craptons of fixes and changes to those drivers in ALSA since the kernel Slackware 12 shipped with came out. (....and again, the version in that kernel doesn't work worth a crap on my laptop either, but with the latest kernel, just about everything's perfect).

No you don't have to start x as root the first time, you just make a user account with the adduser command
You are right about starting X as user , AceofSpades19 ,but i find KUser easy to use for a beginner and i agree with evilDagmar that this seems to be a hardware issue with the system speaker beeping away...i went over this post too fast...so sorry
