Reviews and Compairson

Ok, since we have a community of people who have used slackware 9 then installed 9.1 and saw the difference. Now you guys all need to look back,

Is slackware 9.1 Worth upgrading??? I mean after all the tweaking and everything.... Is it worth it?

Not only that. I want to hear the good. the bad.. and the ugly. All of that.

Basicly I want to hear your personal Review of slackware 9.1 and is it worth upgrading.

This will help not only me but everyone who wants to upgrade there slackware but not sure because of the configuring that they had to do.

I spent part of the day comparing packages between 9-9.1.......One positive thing I noticed---Pat V. has taken aumix from the extra's directory(9.0) and put it in the "ap" directory(9.1), so it is installed by default if one goes with "all" packages installed. I have not installed yet......thinking about a seperate / and /usr partitions from 9.0 and going with that and use /home and swap partitions and see how it goes.............

Wut I can tell spontaneously is:

j2sdk1.4.2_01 is added to 1st CD, so prevent user have to do extra doanload, but java doc isn't there nor in 2nd CD.

The rc.inet1 of 9.0 has changed since the prerelease of 9.1 ..

Almost all small Window-Managers, netscape n mozilla are in the 1st CD.
Gnome, kde, kdei r on the 2nd CD. So ppl don't need them, can deny the 2nd CD. But some usefull stuffs r in /extra of CD2 ..

Open-motif uncompressed 10 mb is there, highly configureable as stated there, need some lines put in ~/.Xresources to make the mwm/xterm frame borders thinner than 2 mm (man mwm ..)

Those come out of my mind spontaneously ..

Afaik ppl playing with linux don't install distro just a few times ..,
so if there is spare (3GB..) for another partition, then give a go for 1st CD , maybe also 2nd ..

If u r new to bittorent, below is a link to it, dun use the 3.3, I can not install it on w2k.. The linux version of bittorent is harder to handle with ..

http://web.newsguy.com/nstrom/bittor...L-3.2.1b-2.exe

.. after downloaded that above, just click it will install it automatically, restart ur browser n click on the image u want below from the site

http://www.slackware.com/torrents/index.html

It will invoke bittorent to do the downloading ..
Click the advance button of bittorent to see the IPs of all participants n their down/up - rates, it is exciting ..

Here is a link for supporting slackware for those can:

Its just a matter of backing up the right stuff, so when you do upgrade its very quick to get up and running like you are use to.
