I hope Slackware 15.1 comes with KDE Plasma 5. KDE Plasma 6 is not ready yet for production use - there are several complaints about serious bugs about it. There is certainly a hype for it - but Slackware never cared about that.

Something I would add ask to add to Slackware, if possible, is ccid and pcsc support, so there is a native support for smartcards. I use it daily as a Brazilian lawyer to file motions before courts. The Slackbuilds scripts are pretty mature.

Re the adwaita-icon-theme issue

Upstream seems to go in the direction of reddog83, to split the package into the current one and a legacy one:

I don't want to weight in on Plasma 5 vs 6, but if you had any problem or found any bug in current Plasma 6 on Slackware, can you please report/link them in a thread?
Thank you

gFTP in GTK+3

What's the status of gFTP? Does it support to compile on GTK+3?

I just tried building gFTP with --disable-gtk2 --enable-gtk3

In file included from options_dialog.c:20:

So, you can attempt to debug it if you'd like to.

________

Nevermind.

That was using the SRC downloaded from the slackware distro repository.

Tried and succeeded using the current SRC downloaded from github

https://github.com/masneyb/gftp

Question: Is there some particular reason why you'd like it built for gtk+3 instead of gtk+2 ?

Because GTK+2 was EOL'd. And also GTK+2 has no native Wayland support compared to GTK+3. Unless GTK+2 was forked and add Wayland support.

gftp has already have indeed GTK+3 support. However the available package on slackware current repo was GTK+2 compiled. Maybe GTK+3 conversion may not be finished

The latest commit of gftp git date of 'Jul 29, 2023'. it never compiled with gtk3.

https://github.com/masneyb/gftp

this request has nothing to do with slackware-current.

Well, about my request to switch to Plasma 6, I still think it's appropriate. I know that Pat intended to have 15.1 with Plasma 5, but I think criterion was set under the vague expectation of a release date that would have been closer to 15.0 release than it is now.

I'm in no hurry to see any release at all, but I would have liked to have Slackware stable shipped with a reasonably current, mature and stable version of the Plasma desktop.

I support whatever Pat decides on the matter; but if (for example) we get a LTS Plasma 6 version before the next Slackware stable release, I think switching to Plasma 6 would be best.
