Hi there

First of all these are my specs: Slackware 9.1 running on a PIII 500, Asus P3B-F motherboard, Geforce 2 MX (the rest is irrelevant I think)

After running a screensaver or changing resolution in X (using CTRL ALT + or -) my mouse pointer isn't responding anymore.

I've tried a few things already like disabling agpgart on boot and enabling the nvidia NvAGP in XF86Config, changing mouse type from "IMPS/2" to "ExplorerPS/2" but nothing helped.

I'm experiencing this problem on all DE's I've tested (KDE and Xfce) so I think it's an Xfree specific problem

Have you tried switching to a console then back to GUI ( ALT + CTRL + F3 then ALT + CTRL + F7 : or whatever your GUI is )?

Hmmm, I tried what you suggested and get the following:

I can switch to the other tty's (1->6) but only tty6 is giving me a login prompt ,the others are black (only a mouse rectangle and a blinking rectangle (as cursor in the upper left) is displayed). When I go back to X with ALT+F7 the mouse works again there.

Now I'm even more puzzled about what could be the cause, any suggestions/ideas?

Hrm...I think that's a slackware thing. I recall reading somewhere that there was a problem if a particular distro didn't have a terminal running while X was running ( I say some distro b/c I can't remember if it's slack or not ... ) Anyway, if it is slack that this is the case, then yeah, you'll only have 1 terminal and 1 X session.

As for your freezes...I don't know. If switching to a termianl then back to X fixes it, that helps you, the only time this happened to me was when I used a KVM, and it's because of the KVM.

In Slackware if you are using runlevel 4 the it always keeps a ttty open on 6. read the text at the bottom of /etc/inittab for a clue as to what is happening.
