LEAP authentication

Ok so im trying to connect to my universities wireless network. The thing is it has a authentication protocol which requires a user name and password that you use to log on anywhere around campus.

I did some reading and LEAP is Cisco's Lightweight Extensible Authentication Protocol. Ive been trying to Google this and cant seem to find a solution in Linux. Anyone have an idea?

Heelp =)

your wireless computer or device must support one of the following:

* MS-PEAP and WPA/TKIP
* LEAP and WPA/TKIP
* LEAP and WPA2/AES

You need wpa_supplicant, and some info from your wireless network maintainers (with which I cannot help you :-) ). For configuration, go to /usr/doc/wpa_supplicant-0.5.7 . This directory contains wpa_supplicant.conf.sample , which is huge and contains a lot of examples. There also is an example folder with more example configurations.

Also, in /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf include a line about wpa_supplicant, like this (example for eth1 from my laptop):

# Config information for eth1:
IPADDR[1]=""
NETMASK[1]=""
USE_DHCP[1]="yes"
WLAN_WPA[1]="wpa_supplicant"
WLAN_WPADRIVER[1]="wext"
DHCP_TIMEOUT[1]="10"
WLAN_WPAWAIT="15"

Change wpadriver to your needs (probably wext though). Edit /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf to your needs, and you should be all set.

Good luck!

Hi,

You should look to the universities computer department for such assistance. A whole lot easier for every one.

One of the first Google searches on LEAP

Reading the 'Server-Based Authentication' section should be a clue as to why you should see the university network admin.
