Kernel recompile with patch and custom driver

Hello fellow *nix elite,
I am sort of new to linux in terms of recompiling the kernel. The kernel itself I can take care of fine, but I have a couple new things I need to do. I need to recompile my kernel (2.4.20), but this time I need to install the driver for my Netgear FA310TX ethernet card, as well as run the vicam kernel patch to get my 3Com Homeconnect USB netcam working. Can someone please advise me on how I should go about doing this?

I would think enable driver for Netgear FA310TX is just a feature that you have to enable when making your kernel config. But if you have a patch, enable it before making the config.

like cd /usr/src/linux
patch -p1 < your_patch_file
