Installing xosd - X11 not threadsafe ?

Hi,

I'm trying to get Slackware 10.1 up and running on my IBM Thinkpad T42. I'm now at the stage where I want to get the proprietary buttons (volume controls) working. I've heard that I can do this vis Thinkpad Buttons, which also says that if you want a snazzy on screen display when you hit one of the buttons, install XOSD. I've got the latest version from http://www.ignavus.net/software.html (2.2.12).

However, while running ./configure, I run into this problem:

configure: error: *** X11 not threadsafe ***

I've no idea how to solve this problem. Can anyone help?

Try use the xev command just to see if it reacts when you push a button

If yes note the keycode numbers it displays (keycode 223 for example)
in a file. After that, create a .Xmodmap file in your home dir.

mine looks like this :
Code:
keycode 234 = XF86AudioPrev
keycode 233 = XF86AudioNext
keycode 232 = XF86LogOff
keycode 236 = XF86Mail
keycode 229 = XF86Search
keycode 230 = XF86Documents
keycode 178 = XF86Start
keycode 235 = XF86HomePage
keycode 161 = XF86Calculator
keycode 223 = XF86Standby
Then restart X and use the wm to assign buttons to commands

Also, I just compiled xosd, that went smoothly no error at all
and a very fast compilation.

It is an amazing program thanks for the link

(I use slackware current, glibc 2.3.5, xorg 6.8.2)
