Installing slack 12 to 2nd hard drive, lilo question

I'm installing slack 12.0 on a second hard drive, hdf, my first drive is hde.

I already have slack 9.1 on both hde and hdf. hde is the master and the lilo on boot offers a choice between quantum, hde or western digital, hdf

copy of lilo.conf from hde (master)

image = /boot/vmlinuz
root = /dev/hde1
label = quantum
read-only # Non-UMSDOS filesystems should be mounted read-only for checking
# Linux bootable partition config ends
# Linux bootable partition config begins
image = /boot/vmlinuz
root = /dev/hdf1
label = western
read-only # Non-UMSDOS filesystems should be mounted read-only for checking
# Linux bootable partition config ends

My question is, when I install 12.0 on the second hard drive and assuming hdf1 remains the boot partition, there should be no reason to change the lilo config on the master drive hde, however, I would still need to install lilo on the new 12.0 install on hdf, right???

You could install lilo on hdf, but it would probably make more sense to just update your config on hde to include Slackware 12 on hdf. The reason for this is when you boot, the BIOS by default looks for the first bootable drive and boots off it. Alternately, if you install lilo on hdf you would have to go into the BIOS and change the boot order of your hard drives to be able to boot off of it. You could then update your lilo config on hdf to include the OS on hde as well. Your choice.

Hello,

If you install 12.0 on hdf1, you can keep lilo on 9.1 but you need to edit /etc/lilo.conf.

Please refer to my post on this topic here.
