kio (KMimeType): WARNING: KServiceType::offers : servicetype text/english not found

1. stderr...searches seem to relate to remote logins...i am not using sshd, but did recently get wlan0 functioning

2. bad font path...perhaps a bad X font server setting? i haven't made any configurations to it so far...and i'm not really sure where its config file is

3. ksplash warning...no idea at all

4. QPixmap & QFont...qt related? these have always appeared since the first "startx"

5. alsa mixer cannot be found...not sure, alsamixer is available to normal users and sound seems to be working fine [including alsa as output]. so...kmix can't load alsa's mixer settings and defaults to its own mixer settings?

6. cdrom...no idea why a cdrom device is being searched for [or what is searching for it], but hdc and hdd are both accessible to all users

most of these are just warnings [i'd still like to correct if possible] and the alsa error doesn't really affect the sound...i'm just wondering why they are generated at all. would upgrading and compiling kde from source be beneficial at all? so far i've stuck with the "current" package tree as much as possible

Use fluxbox, it won't fill your xsession-error, it is clean

Seriously, I always noticed the "QPixmap" warning, in each case I start kde apps in a non-kde desktop session (like in fluxbox for example) and I always see it as you, just at the beginning of a new kde session. I have done some search about that but with no luck...

To fix the cdrom error, try to disable all cdrom options in konqueror if you don't use them.

In general, many program are very verbose, they log anything which is a good thing from open source point of view because logs help to debug.

About "CDROM search" this has beeb discussed 2 times in last week.

start here

Summary: KDE's Audio CD Browser plug in for Konqueror does it. I think it was in "Services" tab. "Was" cause I deleted it and the errors went away. Others just changed permission on /dev/cdrom. You are lucky it doesn't freeze your system, like others reported.

doh!

i had to redo my user account and forgot to re-add myself to the cdrom group
cdrom is detected now

cedrik: just tried fluxbox...and it is *bleeep* quick! i'm going to have to look into how to operate in it...oh yeah, fluxbox gives the stderr message also. any idea why?

suslik: thank you...and i'm sorry i don't keep up with the forum as well as you do.

You can ignore the "stderr is not a tty" message, it appears in my xsession-error too, I think it comes because when x session starts, the errors are redirected to .xsession_error (stderr) and when X reads it, it can't see it as a tty (normal because stderr is not a tty )
