I don't know how to call this, preview tearing? (video problem)
Hi, I noticed this happening on Slackware64-14.1 and current (the one I am using right now), on every website with a preview when you hover the mouse the first time is all borked, the second time it is fine.
I have a Radeon 6670 and I am running the open source drivers. I am running XFCE but, if I remember correctly, it happened under KDE as well.
I'm seeing this as well on a machine with a geforce 210 (using nouveau) since the big -current update. Doesn't seem to happen on my old laptop with intel graphics though.
Xfce doesn't use egl so it can't be mesa. A lot of recent issues have been solved by rebuilding packages. Try that on xf86-video-ati and see if it works.
I tried recompiling it with this Slackbuild and it sort of got better, some links preview fine but some others don't, so I can't say for sure if it really got better or if I just think it got better.
If it happens with AMD and Nvidia hardware using open source drivers, but not Intel, then it likely is a problem with Glamor. Glamor is used by the nouveau and radeon drivers to provide 2D acceleration, but not by the Intel drivers (unless they are compiled to do so). Seeing that Slackware just switched to Xorg server 1.16, which has Glamor inbuilt now, this makes it even more likely.
Yes, but it will only use Glamor if the xorg.conf file has it specifically enabled for the AccelMethod option. Otherwise the driver will still default to exa.
I saw this same issue when I manually upgraded a bunch of packages in Slack 14.1. At the time, I grabbed all the -current source for xorg 1.15.2 and recompiled it with a newer Mesa-10.4.0_rc4 and kernel 3.18.8 (and a few other required programs, most of which I got from -current, somewhere around Dec 2014) and I have the same issue. So it looks to be unrelated to the upgrade of xorg to 1.16.
I believe I had to upgrade just libdrm and Mesa above what -current held at the time (well, that and the kernel). If needed, once I get home from work, I can dig through my notes to verify, but I'm pretty sure it was only Mesa, libdrm, and the kernel that I upgraded beyond what -current had at the time (and libdrm was only needed due to a requirement from Mesa).
I am using the opensource radeon driver on an old ATI HD3870.
