Hulu Launches Linux Version of Desktop, Publisher Tools
I've been using the Flash version of Hulu and it works just fine for me. I'm going to try and get this new Hulu app to work with Slackware 13. I don't use a remote so hopefully its not a hard requirement to install LIRC.
Thanks for the information. I just installed it and watched an episode. Lirc doesn't seem to be a hard requirement. The interface responds to mouse events.
There is no Slackware package available at the hulu site. There are only deb and rpm packages available. Did you use rpm2tgz to create a package or did you install on a Fedora or Debian system?
I have been waiting for this viewer for a while, but with reservations. Has anybody yet performed any security tests on this binary package? I realize the protocol used by hulu is encrypted and tunneled and therefore not easily monitored or traced, but I'm curious whether any hanky-panky is taking place.
I'm on Slack64, used rpm2tgz to install it. It can't find my flash installation. When I reinstalled flash with the newest one from SBo, I try to run huludesktop and get a segfault.

It's a stand alone application. Download either the .deb or .rpm, extract and run. You may have to edit ~/.huludesktop with the location of your flash plugin.

Not sure if you've checked the README...it has some tips on running huludesktop on 64-bit system.
I just read the README and it pointed me in the right direction. I had the wrong dir for the flash plugin. I forgot that it installed in /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins.

Reason: too slow

I used src2pkg on the Fedora rpm and created a package:
Worked fine here. Suggestion: Most people will figure this out, but perhaps add a note in your previous post that the build script is configured for either rpm version and not the deb version.

huludektop will error out after accepting the EULA the first time running. It creates a file ~/.huludesktop. By default under the [flash] field
Seems all the hulu folks need do is add the additional path in the program code.
I have only just begun exploring the tool, but is there a way to create a local favorites list? I have a bookmarks folder in Firefox I'd like to copy/transfer to the player.
Nope, not here. I filed a bug report and have had a couple responses from the Hulu Support Help Desk. They had me manually extract the /usr/bin/huludesktop files from both the rpm and deb files to see if either fixed the issue. Neither fixed my login invalid issue. They did mention that those 2 files have different static libraries built into the binary which I confirmed with different md5sum values.
