How can I patch X.org, from version 6.8.1 to 6.8.2?

In x.org, there is a patch to convert the 6.8.1 version to 6.8.2.

But it comes in .gz format, ok, i did a gzip to it... but what was left was a .patch file... and i dont know how to use it... because if i give it a patch < [file], it doesnt work, just lots of errors.

Any ideas??? Because compiling the X.org 6.8.2 is gonna take a while in my slow machine... so I need a fast solution

The patch file is intended to patch the 6.8.1 source tree up to 6.8.2 standards. It requires you unpack it in the x.org source and recompile the whole thing. Until someone releases a Slackware package for 6.8.2, you should just stick with 6.8.1. There is no way to properly install 6.8.2 on Slackware without a recompile unless you wait for someone to package it.
