If you installed DRI but still no acceleration, make sure that libGL* symbolic links lead to libGL.so.1.2 <- this is 3.2.8 driver. Here is my listing, so I hope it helps you to rebuild symbolic links. That also happened to me, since symlink libGL.so.1 pointed to mesa and not to libGL.so.1.2. Without this, 3d accelleration will not work.
Hey Erol I check out those symbolic links for libGL but they seem to be fine the only difference I can see is that you have lrwxrwxrwx where as I have lrwxr-xr-x but that shouldn´t make a difference as I have been trying it all as root??
I noticed one other thing. When I install DRI it says:
Updating Configuration.
Running ldconfig... Removing old Kernal module "Radeon" ... ERROR
Inserting new kenral module "Radeon" ... ERROR
Here is my XF86Config-4 hope it helps!

First off by letting me say that this is a great webpage for someone like me. Im VERY new to linux (as in i got it installed last night) and ive been searching board after board to find a solution to my problem.
Alright. For some reason this just wont work for me.
Ive tried all the fixes in this thread and nothing is working.
Im running:
3200+ Athlon XP
A7N8X Deluxe Mobo (think thats the numbers)
ATI Raedon 9800 PRO
SB Audigy 2
Red Hat 9
No matter what I do, my video card wont be recognized as ANYTHING but the Mesa crap.
After trying this fix I thought i had it licked but i just ended up having to install Linux over agin.
This is the closest ive come to fixing the problem. I can get all the way too " patch -p1 < fglrx-3.2.8-fix-amd-adv-spec.patch" and it gives me this error:
"missing header for unified diff at line 3 of patch
can't find file to patch at input line 3
Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option?
The text leading up to this was:
--------------------------
|--- firegl_public.c.orig 2003-09-22 04:43:30.000000000 +0200
|+++ firegl_public.c 2003-10-09 00:14:41.337778176 +0200
--------------------------
File to patch:
"
And if i try to skip the patch and run ./make.sh it says it cant find version.h and when i try to search for that on my computer it says I need to make the database.
Now since im so completely new to this, can anyone pssobly explain this in a way that a 2 year old could understand? Thanks in advance.
Two things firstly I think you will find this is the "Slackware" distrubution forum.
I don´t know if it might help more generally if you ask your questions in the Red Hat forum (Generally anway) I don´t know much about Red Hat.
Secondly as stated at the begining of this thread this is for: fglrx 3d & kernel 2.6.2 & nforce2 solution:
Quote:
Here's the deal:
First of all here is the list of all the things you need:
ATI's driver package f.e. I used fglrx-glc22-4.3.0-3.2.8.i586.rpm
If you're using 2.6 kernel like me, you'll need fglrx-2.6-vmalloc-vmaddr.patch, you can find it here
h.ttp://gentoo.kems.net/gentoo-x86-portage/media-video/ati-drivers/files/fglrx-2.6-vmalloc-vmaddr.patch
And if you have AMD processor, you'll need fglrx-3.2.8-fix-amd-adv-spec.patch, you can find it here
h.ttp://gentoo.kems.net/gentoo-x86-portage/media-video/ati-drivers/files/fglrx-3.2.8-fix-amd-adv-spec.patch
Download the newest dri for your radeon card, dri can be found at
h.ttp://dri.sourceforge.net
The latest I used was radeon-20040208-linux.i386.tar.bz2
You need to recompile your kernel and in char devices make sure that:
- agpgart must be as a module
- dri support must be disabled
- NVIDIA-AGP must be enabled
This sounds great and all, but I've run into a wall. I'm using a PowerColor 9600 Pro, and I run into errors trying to modprobe fglrx. I've followed your instructions almost exactly (I can't find the 3.2.8 driver, only 3.7.0). I recompiled and took dri out, enabled nvidia agp and made agpgart a module. When I try to make the fglrx module I get this:
root@darkstar:/lib/modules/fglrx# ./make_install.sh
- creating symlink

If I try to modprobe the fglrx module I get the last lines of the above output starting with the tainting of kernel message down to the insmod failing.
