Jes888,

Great that it's working. I have the same ATI mobility card as you and get similar glxgears and fgl_glxgears scores, but when i try to run Q3 demo or UT2003 my screen just fadees to white. I can hear sound though. Can you play games with your setup??

That's the problem.

As for the DRI instalation, I get the same two errors, but so far that didn't bothered my 3d to work.

I expect your next post to be "YEAH it works!"

YEAH!!! IT WORKS ... It was'nt supposed to help me, but I've tried to get my 9800pro to work in debian
for like 3 months .. and now, finally I got it to work, thank you very much.

P.S You're a god

Code:
debian:/home/dest# glxgears
21482 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4296.400 FPS
21945 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4389.000 FPS
24486 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4897.200 FPS
24184 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4836.800 FPS
4002 frames in 5.0 seconds = 800.400 FPS
2568 frames in 5.0 seconds = 513.600 FPS
D.S The 2 last is fullscreen

hmmm

I'm running a radeon 9800 pro on a shuttle AN35N-Ultra 400 nForce2 mobo in slack 9.1, I have followed erol's instructions exactly, with the exception of patches. I downloaded the patches, and ran the patch command, but absolutly *nothing* happens. it sits there, as if its trying to do something (i.e. i cant enter any new commands and only a ctrl c will get me the command prompt back) but it never actually tells me anything. I am semi-new to linux, and am learning more and more every day, but this has me baffled

So, when i read that with the 3.7.6 drivers you dont have to patch, i got those and tried them.

I just rebuilt my kernel, everythings setup right in there (dri not included, agpgart and nvidia-agp as modules ), compiled the 3.7.6 module and dri from radeon-20040324.i386.tar.bz2

lsmod shows modules:
nvidia_agp
fglrx
ohci_hcd
agpgart

i can get into X

however
whenever I try to run fglrxinfo i get:
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 144 (XFree86 - DRI )
Minor opcode of failed request: 5 ()
Value in failed request: 0x76
Serial Number of failed request: 27
current serial number in output stream: 27

glxinfo gains the same thing

glxgears, same

fgl_glxgears ... same

I'm at a loss here, I've followed erols instructions pretty throughly...

dri install goes just fine, though I will note that it *succeeds* in installing the radeon module, where erol had noted his gave an error.

any suggestions are more than welcomed.......

-John

ok

Tips:

Compile your kernel with disable DRI, enable all AGP with modules not in kernel

Please reinstall XFree86 4.3.0, rpm -Uvh --force XFree86*.rpm

Reinstall fglrx-4.3.0-3.7.6.rpm

Modify your XFree86 with external AGP

Not install dri radeon-xxxx

Restart X

good lock.

Kernel is compiled as you describe , DRI disabled and any relevant AGP included as modules.

since i'm running slackware 9.1 ( a non-rpm distro )
i assume that running rpm2tgz and running installpkg will do the same thing?

the one thing I *havent* done is reinstall X

you suggest I reinstall X, then do the fglrx install ?

without doing the dri install?

I did notice that after I do the dri install, an lsmod will list a module named Radeon as well as the others. Perhaps that is the problem.

my question then would be, how am I to use Direct rendering if I dont install dri in some form or another?

I appreciate the help,

Unhappy Ati and mandrake 10

I know this is actually a slackware-forum, but this is where I have not found a solution to my problem anywhere .... on the net
I am almost new to linux

I am running Mandrake 10 (kernel 2.6.3) on
AN7 (nforce2) 3200+ (2500+)
ATI Radeon 9600XT

There is no 3d. I am completly stuck with Mesas software drivers.

[root@localhost driver]# rpm -ihv fglrx-4.3.0-3.7.6.i386.rpm
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
file /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2 from install of fglrx-4.3.0-3.7.6 conflicts with file from package libxfree86-4.3-30mdk

So I used force since removing libxfree86 (of course) just gave me big trouble.....

OK I then read Erols comments - and hoped I could use them.
I recompiled the kernel without Direct Rendering Manager (under character devices) and verified that I had the other things as modules.

When I installed it said something interessting like
CC drivers/video/aty/radeonfb
LD [m] drivers/video/aty/radeonfb.ko

Alter kernel compile reboot (and choose my new compiled kernel)

I then installed from dri.sourceforge.net.
And reinstalled the package from above.
(and I have tried writeing a lot of modprobe)

However still Mesa

cd /usr/X11R6/lib/
ls libGL* gives:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 751 Dec 8 03:09 libGL.la*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 Mar 26 20:54 libGL.so -> /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 Mar 26 20:54 libGL.so.1 -> /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 798806 Mar 6 02:23 libGL.so.1.2*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 808 Dec 8 03:09 libGLU.la*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 Mar 26 15:49 libGLU.so -> libGLU.so.1*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 Mar 26 15:48 libGLU.so.1 -> libGLU.so.1.3.502*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 568548 Dec 8 03:09 libGLU.so.1.3.502*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 28314 Mar 24 16:03 libGLw.a

When installing DRI I dont get the 2 warnings ...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I got futher (read closer on some things Erol later wrote.)

added the following line in /etc/modprobe.conf
install fglrx /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install fglrx && { /sbin/modprobe nvidia_agp; /bin/true; }

and added the following line in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules
/sbin/modprobe fglrx

However still NO GO.

flgrxinfo
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 144 (XFree86-DRI)
Minor opcode of failed request: 5 ()
Value in failed request: 0x46
Serial number of failed request: 25
Current serial number in output stream: 25

HEY IT WORKS NOW ....

IT is becourse my radeon-2004-linux.i386.tar.bz2 is buggy.
I used the one Erol had used (radeon-20040208.i386.tar.bz2)
and now anything is great.

Have anyone tried Erols way to install radeon drivers with debian package instead? I found prebuilt packages from:
http://xoomer.virgilio.it/flavio.sta....html#prebuilt
I think that radeon cards should work in the same way, even if they were installed from *.deb packages instead from *.rpm. Is there any difference between *.rpm and *.deb packages which may complicate installation of fglrx with 2.6.3 kernel?

Thanks in advance.

hý Erol ý realy need your help in your first post you told us to compile the kernel and i found it how to do from mandrake users who faces this problem too.
compiling your kernel :
su
cd /usr/src/linux
make mrproper
make clean
make xconfig
And go to (Device Drivers-> ) character devices and remove Direct Rendering Manager.
save
make
make bzImage
make modules
make modules_install
make install
edit \etc\lilo.conf so your new kernel is the one that is booted with.
lilo (command to activate your changes)

REBOOT (to activate your new kernel. Make sure your new one is the chosen one)

first of all i am using slackware 9.1 with kernel 2.4.22 and i do know what to do with lilo configruations after compiling kernel so i skipped those edit \etc\lilo.conf so your new kernel is the one that is booted with.
lilo (command to activate your changes)
and reboot the computer after i opened my comp. everything is gone when i write lsmod nothing appears
no device appears i do not know what to do please help me about kernel compiling and that lilo stuff.

hmmm, since you are using 2.4.22 kernel, you shold skip few steps, since they are not needed. after making the config, just do make bzImage. do your lilo stuff, then when you boot in your new kernel do make modules and make modules_install since you're using the default kernel source I'd also recomend to download 2.4.26 or whatever ist the latest.

Check your modules.conf or /etc/rc.d/rc.modules to see what modules your configuration loads.

also type modprobe -l to get list of all modules you can load.

Still you're doing pretty much routine job, so from your post I can't realy figure out the exact problem. But I hope I gave you few pointers to go on...
