I know this is actually a slackware-forum, but this is where I have not found a solution to my problem anywhere .... on the net
I am almost new to linux
I am running Mandrake 10 (kernel 2.6.3) on
AN7 (nforce2) 3200+ (2500+)
ATI Radeon 9600XT
There is no 3d. I am completly stuck with Mesas software drivers.
[root@localhost driver]# rpm -ihv fglrx-4.3.0-3.7.6.i386.rpm
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
file /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2 from install of fglrx-4.3.0-3.7.6 conflicts with file from package libxfree86-4.3-30mdk
So I used force since removing libxfree86 (of course) just gave me big trouble.....
OK I then read Erols comments - and hoped I could use them.
I recompiled the kernel without Direct Rendering Manager (under character devices) and verified that I had the other things as modules.
When I installed it said something interessting like
CC drivers/video/aty/radeonfb
LD [m] drivers/video/aty/radeonfb.ko
Alter kernel
compile reboot (and choose my new compiled kernel)
I then installed from dri.sourceforge.net.
And reinstalled the package from above.
(and I have tried writeing a lot of modprobe)
However still Mesa
cd /usr/X11R6/lib/
ls libGL* gives:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 751 Dec 8 03:09 libGL.la*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 Mar 26 20:54 libGL.so -> /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 Mar 26 20:54 libGL.so.1 -> /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 798806 Mar 6 02:23 libGL.so.1.2*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 808 Dec 8 03:09 libGLU.la*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 Mar 26 15:49 libGLU.so -> libGLU.so.1*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 Mar 26 15:48 libGLU.so.1 -> libGLU.so.1.3.502*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 568548 Dec 8 03:09 libGLU.so.1.3.502*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 28314 Mar 24 16:03 libGLw.a
When installing DRI I dont get the 2 warnings ...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I got futher (read closer on some things Erol later wrote.)
added the following line in /etc/modprobe.conf
install
fglrx /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install
fglrx && { /sbin/modprobe nvidia_agp; /bin/true; }
and added the following line in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules
/sbin/modprobe
fglrx
However still NO GO.

HEY IT WORKS NOW ....
IT is becourse my radeon-2004-linux.i386.tar.bz2 is buggy.
I used the one Erol had used (radeon-20040208.i386.tar.bz2)
and now anything is great.
